2020 Mahindra Thar Hardtop version has been spied again on test in Coimbatore, thereby revealing the larger dimensions of the second generation model

New-Gen Mahindra Thar will make its public debut at the Auto Expo in February next year. Ahead of its world premiere, the lifestyle SUV has been spied on numerous occasions, thereby revealing many of its details.

The images you see here are from one the latest sightings and give us a good look at a fully camouflaged test unit of the 2020 New-Gen Mahindra Thar. From these spyshots, it’s clearly evident that the all-new model will offer an optional hard-top and will be significantly bigger in all dimensions.

Fortunately, Mahindra hasn’t messed around with the SUV’s iconic design. While the 2020 New-Gen Mahindra Thar will look modern and will feature a new body-shell, the good part is that it continues to maintain the essence of the classic ‘Jeep’ look. The front-end would carry a sleeker grille and a new set of round headlamps, which make the SUV look more modern whilst maintaining the signature Wrangler-like look.

The upcoming New-Gen Mahindra Thar is based on the Gen3 chassis that is shared by the TUV300 and the Scorpio. The more modern chassis should help the SUV have better road handling characteristics and a more pliant ride.

The interior will feature a more upmarket dashboard that will carry a large touchscreen infotainment unit on the top-end variant. The upcoming New Mahindra Thar will share its steering wheel with the Mahindra TUV300. Standard safety equipment will include ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, front seatbelt reminder, high-speed alert and rear parking sensors.

Powering the New-gen Mahindra Thar will be an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that will be BSVI-compliant. It will likely offer a maximum power of 140 hp. The same engine will even power various other new-gen Mahindra offerings, albeit in varying tunes. The new model will be kitted out with a 4WD system that will offer a low range selector.
