2019 Maruti Wagon R S-CNG is sold only in the LXi and LXi (O) trims and comes with class-leading fuel economy
The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R S-CNG has been launched in India and is priced at Rs. 4.84 lakh for LXi S-CNG while the LXi S-CNG (O) is Rs. 5,000 costlier at Rs. 4.89 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi) – Rs. 65,000 dearer than the petrol-powered LXi Wagon R. The Wagon R S-CNG features dual ECU with intelligent gas port injection system according to the brand for ensuring “active pickup and superior drivability”.
Additionally, the Wagon R CNG-S comes with class leading fuel economy of 33.54 km/kg – 26 per cent more than the previous Wagon R CNG. Sold in white, silver and grey paint schemes, the alternative fuel expands the Wagon R range further. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer introduced the latest gen Wagon-R in January 2019 with big expectations.
It has been the biggest upgrade in the lifecycle of the popular tall hatch in the domestic market. The 2019 Maruti Wagon R is based on the fifth generation Heartect platform and has certainly grown in dimensions allowing for more interior space. Moreover, the exterior of Wagon R has been completely revised with modern design elements.

The more prominent front end gets updated headlamps and grille section along with a brand new bumper and fog lamps. The rear takes inspiration from the Ertiga as the vertically positioned tail lamps supplement the signature tall pillars and an almost flat roofline of the Wagon R.
The interior of New Wagon R has also gained substantial improvements with the presence of a touchscreen infotainment system and a redesigned dashboard. What came as a biggest surprise was the arrival of the 1.2-litre K series four-cylinder petrol engine from Swift producing 83 PS and 113 Nm, and is connected to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT.
The tried-and-tested 1.0-litre petrol engine, on the other hand, continues in the LXi and VXi grades with similar transmission choices as the bigger motor. We reported a few days ago that Maruti Suzuki is banking heavily on the alternative fuels mainly CNG due to its accessible nature and the high fuel efficiency for future benefits.
The new Wagon R was expected to receive CNG treatment right upon the launch but Maruti Suzuki has taken just over a month to big it back into contention. Now after a month of its launch, the largest automaker in the country launched the 2019 Wagon R S-CNG with the 1.0-litre engine in the entry-level LXi grade.
It produces 67 PS and 90 Nm when on petrol and 58 PS and 78 Nm while running on CNG. Some of the key features in the base variant are driver side airbag, reversing sensors, high speed alert function, seatbelt reminder, ABS with EBD, central locking, manual Air Conditioning, front power windows, etc. The WagonR S-CNG will be available in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Mumbai, Pune, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
