The second generation Ertiga to launch with new 1.5 L petrol engine with smart hybrid from Ciaz next month, 1.5L diesel likely to join the lineup late next year
Maruti Suzuki is going to introduce the second generation of Ertiga next month in India and it is based on Heartect platform. The company has already commenced sales of the new model in some Asian markets. The Ertiga will be powered by petrol and diesel engines with a mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency.
The new 1.5 L petrol engine with SHVS technology puts out 105 hp of power and 138 Nm of torque. Initially, the company will continue to offer the same 1.3 L diesel engine sourced from Fiat with the mild-hybrid system producing 89 bhp and 200 Nm. Both these engines will be mated to 5-speed manual transmission as standard with 4-speed auto in petrol version.
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new 1.5 L diesel engine to replace the current Fiat unit and it is expected to produce 110 PS and 270 Nm. The new diesel engine is BSVI complaint and it will come with SHVS technology to further improve efficiency. This engine is expected to be introduced late next year in Ertiga.
We can expect a small bump in price with the new generation of Ertiga and it will compete against the recently launched Mahindra Marazzo as the MPV has already got a good start in the Indian market. The Marazzo is expected to give tough competition for new Ertiga as both models come with lots of new features and technology to attract buyers.
Mahindra is planning to introduce a new petrol engine along with an automatic option for diesel engine next year for Marazzo and it will be launched around the same time when the Ertiga will get its new diesel engine. The new Ertiga is 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 5 mm taller than the outgoing model, but the company didn’t increase wheelbase as it continues to be at 2,740 mm.
The engineers have reduced the boot space by 32 litres to improve space inside the cabin and the new model offers more legroom for second and third-row passengers. The Ertiga is loaded with features like touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, keyless entry, push-button start and more.
