Hyundai is extensively testing new Santro in public roads and the latest test mule spotted was finished in Grey Colour

Hyundai is going to launch a new hatchback, which is codenamed as AH2 next month in India, but the road testing process is yet to complete as test mules are frequently spotted on public roads. The latest spy shots come from Chennai and this time the AH2 is finished in Star Dust colour as this colour is already available in Grand i10, Xcent, Verna and Creta.

The company is yet to confirm the name of the upcoming hatchback as they are conducting ‘Hyundai naamkaran’ contest in which people can suggest a name and most of them have preferred Santro over others. The exterior will continue the tall boy design theme of the previous generation Santro as it is popular among customers.

The interior design took inspirations from Grand i10 and we can expect quality to be top notch even though it will be priced aggressively. Hyundai will pack Santro with lots of features like a touchscreen infotainment system, steering wheel with audio controls, cooled glove box, electronically controlled outside mirrors and more.

The new Santro is based on revised HA platform of previous generation i10, it is much better than Eon platform as the new model will have to pass crash test also, so safety is going to be very important in fact, AH2 comes with dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder, speed alert and central locking system.

Hyundai Santro will be powered by a 1.1 L petrol engine from i10, but the company has made lots of changes to this unit. The updated engine is BSVI complaint and in i10, this engine produces 68 bhp of power and 99 Nm of torque, We can also expect good efficiency.

This engine will be mated to the 5-speed manual and new AMT transmission, which is christened as ‘Smart Auto’. The Santro will be the first Hyundai model to come with AMT gearbox and it will be available with next generation of Grand i10 and Elite i20. Hyundai will position Santro below Grand i10 and it competes against Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Tata Tiago.
