2018 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross has received Speed Alert System, Passenger Seat Belt Reminder and Rear Parking Assist System among others

Maruti Suzuki revived the fortunes of the S-Cross when the facelifted version went on sale late last year. The cosmetic updates did change the perception of the buyers and, as we don’t often see in the market, its volume sales have surged by a considerable margin.

Since October 2017, when the facelift broke into the scenes, the S-Cross’ monthly average rose to 4,000 units and last month it endured 83 percent YoY sales growth. The first product to kick start the Nexa premium dealerships’ journey is expected to get a new petrol powertrain into the range courtesy of a recent web advertisement.

With likely starting price at Rs. 8.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the 1.5-litre SHVS unit is the same mild-hybrid mill that debuted in the newly launched updated Ciaz with 104.7 PS maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque delivered at 4,400 rpm.

It could also be introduced in the soon-arriving new generation Ertiga MPV but in S-Cross’ case it will act as a crucially needed range expander. With S-Cross currently being offered only in four variants, the inclusion of new engine is pivotal in all the respects to compete strongly against competition.

Before its arrival though, Maruti Suzuki has added new features into the crossover’s equipment list. Hot on the heels of featuring in the new Ciaz and the 2018 Vitara Brezza, the largest car brand in the country has added high speed alert function.

The formally known as Speed Alert System (SAS) kicks in with a beep every minute at cruising speed of 80 kmph and at speeds of 120 kmph and above, the beep continues without stopping. It cannot be turned off as part of government’s mandate to increase standard safety features.

It is provided across the range along with Passenger Seat Belt Reminder and Rear Parking Assist sensors. Maruti Suzuki has added several new features into the mid-level Delta grade priced at Rs. 9.43 lakh (ex-showroom).

It includes automatic air conditioning system, cruise control, rear wash and wiper, electrically foldable ORVMs with turn indicators, smart keyless entry with push start and machined alloy wheels. Needless to say, the VFM proposition of the S-Cross has certainly increased with the newly added features.

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is powered by the 1.3-litre DDiS four-cylinder Multijet diesel engine producing 89 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The SHVS technology helps it to achieve 25.1 kmpl claimed mileage and only five-speed manual transmission is retailed.
