2018 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster receives same visual and technical updates from the Coupe version; makes 740 PS from the 6.5L V12 mill

The Lamborghini Aventador S received a Coupe version in 2016 and its arrival begged the question of when would the similar upgrades be introduced on the Roadster and the time is finally up. The Italian supercar manufacturer lifted the cloaks off the Aventador S Roadster at the ongoing 2017 edition of Frankfurt Motor Show and it has immediately entered India at a price of Rs. 5.79 crore (ex-showroom). It shows the domestic market’s importance among supercar makers.

As expected though, it comes adorned with the same technical and exterior modifications as its hard-top cousin. While the wind-on-the-face attitude is a cool addition, Lamborghini has worked hard to minimise the obvious performance compromises encountered in a drop-top. For instance, the removable roof panels weigh as few as 6 kilograms.

The roof panels can be specified in either matte black carbon fibre or high-gloss black amidst customers having the option to choose their desired elements from the Ad Personam scheme. During the open-top experience, occupants can open the rear window to reduce airflow and of course listen to the glorious V12 engine.

Due to the removal of the fixed roof, other strengthening additions had to be employed. Thus, the Aventador S Roadster weighs 50 kg heavier than the Coupe at 1.6 tonnes. It gets power from the same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine which is good enough to pump out 740 PS of maximum power and 690 Nm of peak torque. With gearshifts claimed in 50 milliseconds, the power is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Other important changes carried over from the Coupe include the new suspension geometry, four-wheel steering, revised driving modes with new EGO, updated ESC software and so on.

It features carbon ceramic brakes as standard and comes wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres. Painted in Blue Aegir, inspired by the turquoise ocean, it can be had in other paint schemes from the Ad Personam too. Customers do get chance to specify Alcantara or leather seats including the roof panels with black Alcantara covering or matte black carbon.

With deliveries expected to begin from early next year, its price starts from £251,462 (Rs. 2.10 crore) in the UK. In India, the Aventador S is priced at Rs. 4.75 crore and the LP 700-4 Roadster at Rs. 5.32 crore (ex-showroom) making the S Roadster the new range-topper.
