2018 Maruti Suzuki Supra SAEINDIA has been the biggest in terms of participation as over 3,000 engineering students from 112 teams competed this year

The seventh edition of Maruti Suzuki Supra SAEINDIA has completed this year in style with a last lap tussle at BIC. As we have expected from the mega event, there were brand new car concepts pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology, and are developed entirely by engineering students under specific set of regulations.

The enthusiastic young boys and girls from across the length and breadth of the country have participated in the grand gathering and stuck by #MarutiSuzukiForInnovation hash tag. A total of 112 teams have competed on full-force at the Maruti Suzuki Supra SAEIndia 2018 and the field promised to be the most thrilling and exciting yet – they have indeed delivered.

A record setting field with more than 3,000 engineering students from 112 different teams were vying for spotlight by designing and developing Formula-styled cars from scratch with new innovative ideas.

Maruti Suzuki Supra SAEIndia 2018 was conducted over six days between June 11 and 16 as 48 colleges from across the country joined for the first time. The elite adjudicators panel comprised of Automotive specialists with 4 eminent experts from Germany and 70 experts from the India automotive industry.

The event nurtures talents of the young minds and puts them on a completely different perspective. It opens up new opportunities as well as chances of real-world exposure. The even consisted of as much as 100 judges, 100 faculty advisors and 100 volunteers totally. They have dedicated their time to assist participants in the technical know-how and other significant areas of developing the Supra cars.

Maruti Suzuki, the title sponsor, along with SAE India cater new opportunities to aspiring young engineers in order to conceive, conceptualise, design and fabricate small Formula cars. Maruti Suzuki Supra SAE 2018 provides a high-standard platform for students at a young age to amalgamate theoretical knowledge and transform into real world experience.

The students’ creativity comes handy in imagining, conceiving, designing and building the vehicles within a limited set of rules at their disposal. The competition has been constantly growing since its inception in 2011 and the standards are right on the international level, having been hosted at the world famous BIC (Buddh International Circuit).

The teams have put on their best efforts as young engineering students invested a whole lot of time, energy and resources to come up with their creations. The platform enables students an innovative and hands-on approach, consolidating what has been learned in classrooms in designing the prototypes.

They have developed the Supra Formula car based on predefined norms and design standards of SAE International. Each Supra vehicle has gone through strenuous scrutiny including technical inspections, static and dynamic events, etc.

2018 maruti suzuki supra sae india-1-11Team “Kratos Racing” from Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering have emerged the winners ahead of Team “GTU Motorsports” from Gujarat Technological University and Team “Veloce Racing” from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology.

The top woman participant award was secured by Ms. Ayushi Aggarwal from Indira Gandhi Technical University for Women. Totally, 27 teams made it to the finale of the endurance round and 18 saw the finish line. The valedictory session was graced by Mr. Dinesh Tyagi, Director ICAT, Manesar and Mr. CV Raman, Senior Executive Director, Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

“7th Edition of SUPRA SAEINDIA 2018 has been a phenomenal experience with the participation of over 3,000 students. While the engineering students showcased their skills to the judges, we were delighted at the high enthusiasm towards automobile engineering.”

The one year long challenge across multiple stages proceeded through design defense, multiple rounds of technical inspections and actual construction of the vehicle. The students were guided and mentored by Student Alumni and faculty advisers imparting training and guidance by technical experts from SAEIndia.
