Pre-orders for the Uniti One all-electric car has commenced in India already for a token of Rs. 1,000 before entering the market in 2020

The Auto Expo is known for surprising concepts from Indian automotive giants but this time around we have a brand new electric car that took us all aback and it is not home-grown. Established brands or otherwise, the promise of keeping up the production model in the same line with the concept would not be possible every time. But here we have a full electric vehicle that has not just announced its market entry but also the pricing in which it will be available for customers.

The Uniti One is a five-seater electric car that will arrive commercially on sale by the end of this decade at a price of Rs. 7,14,000 (ex-showroom). Considering that the electric infrastructure in India yet to stretch its wings, this has indeed been a bold move. While the company says the price is subjected to change, the initial deposit of Rs. 1,000 is 100 percent refundable.

Uniti, a Swedish automotive startup founded in January 2016, says the One EV has a range starting at 200 kilometers courtesy of a single fast charging facility but no other technical details of the powertrain are announced yet. The interior is claimed to provide good amount of space for the occupants.

As for the safety, the Uniti One will comprise of ‘comprehensive’ sensor suite and intelligent safety techs to mitigate crashes. Will a startup be able to achieve what wealthy mainstreams manufacturers could not in making the EVs affordable for Indian customers? How will they have credibility intact and serve owners in a vast country like ours? We may have to wait for sometime to find suitable answers!
