With Chinese consumers like to be chauffeured around, the 2018 Audi A6 L features 120 mm longer wheelbase compared to the regular model
With global automakers observing the Chinese customers’ affinity towards extended wheelbase versions of regular models, they could not wait to get an upper hand. And in fact, all of them sell China-specific variants of their popular vehicles and some of them will reach international markets owing to their selling potential.
The German trio of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz entail in such affair more often than not. The long wheelbase version of the Audi A6 is a typical product made for the People’s Republic and it will be launched there before expanding to other markets if demand exists.
With Chinese consumers like to be chauffeured around, the Audi A6 L features 120 mm longer wheelbase compared to the regular model. Compared to its predecessor, it has 20 mm more wheelbase as well and in every sense it stretches the rear doors further to offer additional space for the occupants at the back.
Interestingly, there are some exterior changes made and can be seen on the leaked images. In comparison to the regular A6, Audi has revised the quarter glass as well as rear glasshouse and made them less aligned to the front. The Audi A6 L takes on key competitors such as Mercedes-Benz E-Class L.
Does it have a future in India? We do not know that just yet but considering the success of the latest E-Class in India, which is a re-engineered version of the E-Class L sold in China, we can expect Audi to think over such possibilities in the near future.
In China, the A6 L will be offered in either a 2.0-litre or a 3.0-litre engine option. It could break covers at the upcoming Chengdu Motor Show towards the end of next month. It is important to note that India is more likely to get the new generation of standard A6 sometime in 2019.
