2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid gets minor feature updates; powered by the same 205 PS 2.5L petrol-electric powertrain with 19.16 kmpl rated fuel economy

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the 2017 Camry Hybrid variant alongside the all-new Prius today. Priced very competitively against Honda Accord Hybrid at Rs.31,98,500 (Ex- Showroom New Delhi), it benefits under the FAME (Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric cars) scheme by Rs. 70,000. Equipped with Hybrid Synergy Drive which is claimed to be the world’s leading hybrid technology, the Camry Hybrid is the first and only hybrid model to be manufactured in India via SKD route.

First introduced in 2013, the Camry Hybrid stepped into an unknown territory of eco-friendly vehicles. With the increasing environmental awareness among general public and government’s strides to slap down the raging pollution levels, the Camry Hybrid has been well-received in recent times when compared to its earlier iterations. No mechanical changes are made as the new Camry Hybrid comes incorporating six-speed Electronically Controlled VVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) responsive for performance and reduced fuel consumption which remains at 19.16 kmpl.

2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid Test Ride Review

The 2.5-litre Engine inline four-cylinder DOHC 2AR-FXE petrol engine is connected to a 143 PS electric motor to produce a combined output of 205 PS. Toyota focused on improving the features provided on the 2017 Camry with the addition of class-leading nine SRS airbags including a driver knee bag, all-new JBL 12-speaker stereo surround system in place of Fidutsu 10-speaker unit. MapmyIndia navigation service has also been introduced alongside TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) and wireless charging for smartphones.

From visual standpoint, the new Camry hybrid gets larger 15-spoke alloy wheels, new LED fog lamps and LED headlamps, auto folding and reverse linked ORVMs with memory and existing zebra wood interior finish. It is offered in six colour schemes as before namely True Blue Mica Metallic, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Attitude Black and Dark Brown Mica Metallic.

It also gains new back guide monitor and Emergency Brake Signal alongside impact absorbing vehicle body, rear seats complying with ISOFIX standard, vehicle stability control with Traction Control and Hill start assist control consolidating safety. Other important features retained are collapsible headrest for front passenger seat, power recline rear seats, front seat ventilation system, three-zone automatic climate control with nanoe ion generator and power sunshade for rear windshield and manual Sunshade for rear doors among others.
