The spy images of the facelifted Ford EcoSport have surfaced on the internet courtesy of Chinese website Autosina.com. The China-spec sub-four metre SUV spotted will be manufactured at Changan production facility in Hangzhou, China. Although the front fascia was fully masked, a closer look at the front-end snap will indicate towards a redesigned headlamp unit, revision to the prominent large grille, reworked fog lamp housing with signal indicators, etc.

The second generation Ford Kuga SUV with mildly refreshed front end and the Ford Edge crossover unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March are design influencers for the conventional EcoSport which is expected to arrive at Indian shores sometime next year. Most significantly, the rear end will not possess the mounted spare wheel as seen on the European spec EcoSport – at least for China.

The interior spy shot points towards a newly designed dashboard but it’s yet unclear whether the American manufacturer will keep it exclusive for China or introduce it for other markets including India. Putting the rumours aside, the new dashboard looks more premium than the current design as it comes adorned with silver and chrome touches.

The infotainment system has also received an overhaul besides the multi-spoke steering wheel with new mounted controls, new HVAC vents and revisions to the instrument cluster as well. For the Chinese market, the Ford EcoSport is expected to feature a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine developing 123 hp and a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol unit pumping out 110 hp. The two transmission options are a standard five-speed manual and an optional six-speed powershift DCT automatic.

Ford launched the facelifted version of its EcoSport last October featuring new equipment list and an uprated diesel engine pushing extra horsepower. On the outside, new styling elements gained are a set of LED Daytime Running Lights and new fog lamps along with a new colour scheme called Golden Bronze.

The minor interior modifications were done to door handles and window switches which were applied with chrome. Ford’s SYNC with AppLink car connectivity, rain sensing wipers, auto head lamps, electro-chromic mirror and automatic climate control were added to the features list.
