Land Rover has just launched the Discover Sport in the Indian market today, Priced from Rs.46.10 lakhs
The most awaited and the most successful Land Rover of all times in the market has finally been launched in India, Yes, we are talking about the Discovery Sport which has come with all new tag on its back. Currently, JLR India has a 9 percent market share in the Indian luxury car market and with the launch of Discovery Sport, market share is expected to rise marginally. Discovery sport comes with an all-new with a steel monocoque, Meanwhile the bonnet, wings, roof and tailgate are made from aluminium. The platform for the Discovery Sport is the Land Rover LR-MS platform that is being used which shares it roots with the Evoque but has 90% of components all new.
Baby Land Rover looks stunning and sporty while maintaining heritage in terms of design. New headlights and tail-lights look very futuristic and modern. It looks extremely purposeful in colors grey which is contrasted black when it comes to wheels and roof. Front-end is very brutish in design meanwhile the rear look sporty and 100% Land Rover at the same time. The Discovery needless to say is top-notch when it comes to safety as it already has received 5-star rating from the NCAP and was ranked as the safest vehicle in its class, the Small Off-Road class category in the UK.
Interior wise it is again typical Land Rover with top-notch quality and a simple yet elegant layout of the dashboard and seats. The Sport gets 18-19 inch wheel sets as option. Fixed Panoramic sunroof, 8 inch touchscreen, optional premium carpets, Meridian sound system with 17 speakers on top variant. 5+2 seats option is also available. 24*7 road assistance comes standard.
Land Rover vehicles are available in India through 22 authorized outlets in Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi (at Janpath & Mathura Road), Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kochi, Karnal, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Raipur.
Technically, Under the clam shell bonnet, it packs a 2.2 litre diesel motor that is mated to a brand new 9-speed automatic transmission found on updated JLR vehicles. The engine now produces 150 PS of power and 400 Nm torque. There is also an 180 BHP option with the range of engines. The new autobox helps the car reach from 0-100 km/hr in 10.3 seconds while the top speed is just 180 kmph. Top-end variant gets Adaptive damping as standard. The Discovery Sport competes with the likes of BMW X3, Audi Q5 and upcoming Mercedes GLC. The battle will be intense as these are products for Germans are extremely important when it come to highly competitive mid-level SUV segment.
