These upcoming new Coupe SUVs will sport a unique body style within the conventional mid-size SUV segment

The mid-size SUV segment is one of the most popular and competitive categories within the entire SUV market space. Conventionally, the cars in this segment sport an SUV-ish stance with high ground clearance, boxy designs, flared wheel arches and oodles of features inside the cabin.

Tata Motors is yet to enter this segment and we already know that the Curvv is due around mid-2024. Along with this, Citroen is also readying the Basalt Vision SUV which was recently revealed in its concept form. These two Coupe SUVs will kick start a unique new category within the mid-size SUV segment. So, let’s have a look at the details of 2 brand new Coupe SUVs launch in India soon.

1. Tata Curvv

Tata Curvv has been in the development phase for a long time now and it will soon be a reality. Last showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in the near-production guise, we got a good glimpse of the upcoming coupe-SUV. The final production version of the Tata Curvv will soon see the light of the day. Expected to debut around mid-2024, the all-electric Curvv will be followed by the launch of the conventionally powered counterpart.

As for the exterior design is concerned, the Curvv will sport a familiar front fascia, in line with the current crop of Tata SUVs along with flush door handles, 18-inch alloy wheels and a sloping roofline. The interiors are still under wraps, however, similarity with other SUVs in the brand’s line-up is expected. It will be powered by the familiar 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine from the Nexon along with the new 1.2-litre tGDi petrol engine. The new turbo petrol engine will produce 125 bhp and 225 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual and a DCT gearbox.

2. Citroen Basalt Coupe-SUV

Specifically developed for the South African and Indian market, the Citroen Basalt Vision Concept was recently revealed and it will be launched in the domestic market in the second half of 2024. The test mule of the coupe-SUV has been spotted multiple times in India and it will go by the name C3X. Based on the same platform as the C3 Aircross, the Coupe-SUV will be powered by the familiar 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine putting out 110 bhp and 205 Nm of peak torque. In addition to the 6-speed manual, there will be a torque converter automatic gearbox on offer.

In terms of design, the Basalt Vision Concept features a familiar front-fascia, a sloping roofline, gloss-black cladding, beefy rear bumper and a subtle shoulder line seamlessly merging into the tail lamps. Citroen says that the coupe-SUV will sport a vibrant colour palette. The Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV will rival the likes of the upcoming Tata Curvv in the Indian market.
