The Toyota Glanza is a Maruti Baleno Based premium hatchback manufactured by Suzuki Motor Corporation at Gujrat factory

Last month, it emerged that the high demand for the Maruti Baleno based Toyota Glanza has led to a waiting period of up to 1 month. In line with the considerable demand, the Glanza, what is essentially a Toyota-badged Baleno, has managed to sell 1,830 units last month.

This is slightly less than the 2,142 units that were sold in May 2019. However, it’s still a decent figure if you take into account the sales performance of models like the Honda Jazz and the VW Polo.

It is being reported that Toyota Kirloskar Motor will be supplied with 25,000 units of the Toyota Glanza every year. These vehicles will be made at Suzuki’s Gujarat-based facility. The Glanza has become the first product from the Suzuki-Toyota partnership and will be followed by a rebadged Maruti Ertiga.

Toyota Glanza launched only in Petrol variant

The Toyota Glanza has been on sale at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 7.21 lakh and is available in two trims – G and V, which are based on the Zeta and Alpha variants of Baleno, respectively. The Glanza looks a lot like the Baleno, with the only discrepancy arising out of a new radiator grille and badges. Even the interior has a striking similarity with that of the Baleno. Even here, the major differentiating point is the badges.

While the Maruti Baleno is available with two petrol and a diesel engine option, the Toyota Glanza is available only with the 2 petrol motors. The K12 Dualjet petrol motor outputs 90 PS and 113 Nm while K-series 1.2L engine produces 83 PS and 112 NM. K12 Dualjet works in conjunction with the SHVS mild hybrid technology. The motor comes paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual in both petrol and a CVT in 1.2L K-series only.

The manual transmission model of the Toyota Glanza offers a fuel mileage of 23.87 kmpl, while the CVT version offers 19.56 kmpl. While the Maruti Baleno is available with a standard 2 year/40,000 km warranty, the Glanza comes with 3 year/one lakh km warranty.
