Renault-Nissan alliance is currently working on launching a number of new models over the next two to three years in India

Renault-Nissan alliance is planning to launch a slew of new models over the next two to three years in the domestic market and big investments have also been lined up. Renault currently sells only the Kwid, Triber and Kiger while the sole Nissan on offering is the Magnite. The arrival of more stringent emission standards and poor sales volumes have indeed hurt the brand.

However, the Franco-Japanese strategic partnership is bracing to make a strong comeback in India. In a recent presentation, Nissan has confirmed that it is working on at least four new products for India and the facelifted Magnite appear to be in the pipeline as well. The updated compact SUV will be the first one to arrive by the middle of next year.

The brand will also fancy high volumes by exporting the model from the manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu. In late 2022, Nissan unveiled a trio of global SUVs in India including the X-Trail and it has been caught testing multiple times on Indian soil. With e-Power range extender technology, it could be heading to the showrooms sometime next year as well.

We can expect the revised Renault Kiger to be introduced in the near future as it has a lot in common with the Magnite. In 2025, the French auto major will introduce the latest global Duster to compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and others in the midsize SUV segment.

It will also spawn a badge-engineered Nissan sibling but whether it will carry the Terrano nameplate or not is yet unknown. The CMF-B architecture will also give rise to a seven-seater midsize SUV to rival Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus following the routes of the new-gen Duster and its design will also be heavily influenced by the Dacia Bigster concept.

An entry-level A-segment EV, mostly in a hatchback body style, is also under development for both brands and an affordable family-based MPV derived from the Renault Triber will help expand Nissan’s portfolio in India further. Renault and Nissan could leverage the homologation relaxations to sell global models via CBU route in India in the coming years.
