The British luxury automaker Bentley launched their first ever SUV, Bentayga, in India today at Rs.3.85 crore. This is the fastest SUV in the world at present, arguably the most luxurious and most powerful also.
At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show Bentley showcased a concept dubbed as EXP 9F, which paved the way for their first SUV called Bentayga. At the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show Bentley unveiled the production model of the Bentayga. The car was tested as the fastest SUV of all time with 100 kmph from nothing in just 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 301 kmph. These figures are very impressive for an SUV having a kerb weight of 2,422 kilograms.
The Bentley Bentayga takes inspiration from the Continental GT. The front fascia looks like the Continental GT, while the rest indicates it is a SUV. At interior the SUV offers ultra luxurious comfort and features. The car gets a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice command facility and 60 GB inbuilt memory.
The leather and wooden trims used inside the cabin comes of ultra premium and modern quality. A very interesting feature inside the cabin is a Breitling Mulliner Tourbillon clock sitting at the dashboard, which is an optional feature customers can opt for shelling a whooping amount of extra money. The rear passengers get 10.2 inch removable tablets as the individual infotainment system.
Bentley Bentayga is claimed as the most powerful SUV of all time with a 6.0 litre twin turbocharged W12 petrol engine which gets paired with a ZF 8 speed automatic transmission and churns out massive 600 bhp at 5,250 rpm of peak power and 900 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. This powertrain delivers only 7 kmpl of fuel economy and complies with the stringent Euro 6 emission and UV LEV III norms. But, whoever buying this car, won’t be thinking a bit about the fuel efficiency right?
It’s designed, engineered and handcrafted at the company’s base in Crewe, England. The Bentley Bentayaga is said to provide supreme driving confidence courtesy of the proven all-wheel drive system. It has signature four round LED headlamps and the royal-appeal of a Bentley with large matrix grille and muscular character lines reiterating the brand’s famed DNA.
Bentley says the Bentayaga is the epitome of modern British luxury with interior detailing applied in metal, wood and leather carried out in meticulous precision. It measures 5,141 mm in length, 2,223 mm in width across mirrors, 1,742 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,992 mm. It emits 292 g/km of CO2 and sits on large-vehicle iteration of the Volkswagen Group’s new MLB Evo platform that underpins the Porsche Cayenne and the upcoming Audi Q7 SUV.
The Bentayaga’s body is the industry’s largest single aluminium pressing. As for the electronics the large and powerful luxury SUV has a computer controlled air spring system facilitating for the adjustment of the hill descent, ride height, damping, roll control etc by the driver. It also boasts four selectable on-road and as much off-road driving modes, quick acting 48V anti-roll bar system, a special trailer assist feature and a new electrically assisted system with variable rack and pinion.
