Second-gen Renault Koleos was unveiled at 2016 Beijing Motor Show and will carry Samsung QM6 name in South Korea

Walking the same path like its predecessor the second generation Renault Koleos has received a new name in South Korean market, as it would be christened as the Samsung QM6 in the country. Incidentally, the first generation Renault Koleos is sold as the Samsung QM5 in South Korea. After the unveiling at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show few days ago the next generation Renault Koleos has been showcased at the 2016 Busan Auto Show with a new badge, “QM6”.

The first generation Renault Koleos has been sold in the Korean market as QM5 for last 9 years, and as the new QM6 has been showcased, it sports a new logo, replacing the Renault’s diamond logo. The headlamps have been revised as well. Otherwise the car looks similar.

Showcased alongside the Twizy electric car and Clio RS the QM6 would hit the showrooms sometime later this year, possibly around September. With the roll out of the QM6 the outgoing QM5’s production will be stopped eventually. The new model will be manufactured at the automaker’s Busan plant and it will be exported to around 80 other countries.

The second generation Reault Koles has been built on the Common Module Family or CMF-CD platform which has been developed jointly by Renault and Nissan. The India bound new Nissan X-Trail is also based on the same platform. The new QM6 or the Renault Koleos would come in both the front wheel drive and All Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration.

Although the car has been displayed completely, but the powertrain remains a mystery, as Renault is still tight lipped about it. Expect the car to come sharing the powertrain with Renault Talisman sedan, which draws power from a 1.6 litre turbo engine and a 2.0 litre engine on offer. Transmission duty is done by a CVT gearbox, and the QM6 will take on rivals like Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Orlando, Ssangyong Korando and Kia Sorento.
