Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport likely to boast the made-in-India 1.4-litre K14C Boosterjet engine pumping out 140hp with an aggressive exterior and sporty handling

Maruti Suzuki will be launching the 2017 Swift hatchback sometime this year in India but hot on its heels a report surfaced on the internet say the leading automaker in the country could introduce the new-gen Swift Sport model here as well. The Swift Sport is likely to come with cosmetic changes, tuned engine for additional performance and mechanical modifications for sporty handling over the standard model.

Currently in India, there are hot hatchbacks like the Fiat Punto Abarth and the Volkswagen Polo GTI as the perception of domestic buyers has changed towards purchasing performance models. This could be the reason why Maruti is pursuing after a potential market entry of the most sporty Swift version in its new avatar.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport debuting at Indian shores will be an extreme take on the new generation global-spec version that was revealed in Japan just over a week ago. On its third generation in international guise, it going to have a modern and sporty appearance and will be appealing for young customers in particular. It will comprise of sharper chin, dual exhausts, flared wheel arches, bigger wheels, blackened rear diffuser and sleeker elements fitted up front and rear that will be surely a head-turner.

Most propably it will appear like the above posted rendering by X-Tomi Design. The key attribute will be the powertrain and is expected to be a 1.4-litre Boosterjet K14C engine developing as much as 140 horsepower – right on the Abarth Punto’s territory. The engine will be manufactured at the brand’s Manesar facility where the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol for the upcoming Baleno RS is also made. They share common architecture as well that bodes well for lower production costs.

New-Suzuki-Swift-RS-indiaAs the regular Swift, it shares the lightweight platform with Baleno and thus expect a kerb weight way below 1,000 kilograms. It will likely feature stiffened suspension, larger brakes, handling focused springs and dampers, etc. The global launch of new Swift Sport is predicted to happen in the second half of 2017 and is expected to be priced at around Rs. 8.5 lakh upon arrival in India.
