2016 Delhi Auto Expo: Jaguar XE launched for Indian market, priced from Rs.39.90 Lakhs
Jaguar XE is the first compact executive car produced by the British auto maker since 2009 and it rivals against established competitors Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class in the luxury segment. Jaguar describes the XE as its most advanced sport sedan ever produced and has received huge credits in its very short tenure so far in the international markets.
Took the Indian bow at the Auto Expo 2016 aiming for volume sales right from the word-go, it is constructed on modular aluminium-intensive monocoque IQ architecture that enhances chassis strength and torsion rigidity. It will be the most affordable Jaguar sold in our market and dealers started accepting bookings for Rs. 1 lakh already and deliveries are said to commence from the 20th onwards this month. Expected to be assembled at JLR’s production base in Pune to keep the costs down and price aggressively rather than brought in from UK as CBU units.
The Jaguar XE receives design inspirations from the XF flagship sedan and features broader shoulder lines up front with a large grille across the company’s signature Leaping Cat emblem. The very detailed outer body structure provides for a very low drag co-efficient of 0.26 Cd and is inspired by the halo F-Type sports car to adhere to its sporty stance. On the inside, it features a new iConnect Touch Pro infotainment system with 10.2-inch touchscreen that plays music on-the-go and guides your destination in addition to an improved tech system and a WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices and Apple Watch connectivity.
The all-new, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Ingenium family has two states of tune: one developing 160 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque and the other producing 178 bhp and 430 Nm of torque. The moe powerful 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine delivering 335hp is offered in foreign markets. All engines comes coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with active and passive suspension technologies. The Jaguar XE can go from 0-100 kmph in just 5.1 seconds and can top out 250 kmph. It measures about 4,672 mm in length, 2,075 mm in width, 1,416 mm in height and 2,835 mm in wheelbase and has a fuel tank capacity of 63 litres and 455 litres of trunk space.
The XE will have an all-new electronically assisted power steering and some very interesting technologies. The Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) detects slippery roads and sends torque to all four wheels but normally the car is rear-wheel driven for fuel conservation. Adaptive Surface Response reconfigures engine and stability control set-up; Configurable Dynamics adjusts throttle response and gearshift speed whilst adaptive dampers can be tuned as per driver’s preference. Adaptive Speed Limiter, Active Suspension, Driver Condition Monitor and Lane Keep Assist are some of the safety features coming along with the Jaguar XE. The active suspension learns the road surface and adjusts the dampers to make for a better ride.
