Fiat Tipo Hatchback and Estate Break Cover at 2016 Geneva Motor Show; could be launched in latter half of 2017 for India
Fiat might not be everyone’s choice but there is certainly a huge dedicated fan base for the brand in India. They have every reason to be cheered as Fiat unveiled the all new Tipo hatchback and Estate at the first day of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Tipo looks absolutely cool, and it might be a game changer for Fiat in India. The car gets an aggressive look. The hatchback sits tight in the premium segment and it could be a tough rival against Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno if Fiat launches the car here. Tipo’s design looks identical to the Egea concept which was showcased in early 2015. The Tipos sport aggressive front grille, stylish sleek headlamps while the side profile gets bold looking wheels, sharp character lines, sporty looking blackened pillars and chrome door handles. The rear also gets a stylish appearance.
The interior of Tipos are sporty and spacious. Well, roominess is the highlight of the Tipo hatchback, as the rear of the hatch can afford three six feet plus adult occupants. It gets a 440 litres of best in class boot space. On the other hand the Tipo estate gets 550 litres of segment best boot space. Apart from the spacious interiors Tipos will come with lots of electronic stuff inside the cabin along with interesting features.
Both the hatchback and estate will be available in three different trims. All the trims will get remote central locking, electric mirrors, six airbags, DAB digital radio and multi-function steering wheels as standard. The estate will get rear electric windows in all the trims.
The engine range for Tipos will comprise a total of five engines, among which three are petrol powered and the rest are diesel. The base petrol variant will get a 1.4 litre unit under the bonnet churning out 94 bhp power and 125 Nm of torque. The other units are a 1.6 litre unit mated to a six speed automatic gearbox producing 108 bhp peak power and 203 Nm peak torque, while there will be a turbocharged engine as well in form of 1.4 litre unit generating 118 bhp peak power and 206 Nm peak torque.
On the diesel front Tipos will get a 1.3 litre MultiJet II engine pumping out 94 bhp peak power and 200 Nm peak torque, while the second unit will be a larger 1.6 litre MultiJet II unit paired with a dual clutch transmission kicking out 118 bhp peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The Tipo hatchback and estate will go on sale in the UK in September 2016. We might expect Fiat to launch the Tipo hatchback in India later in 2017.
