Hyundai Creta
The midsize SUV segment saw a very different order in August 2026 with the Hyundai Creta retaining first place at 16,288 units and the Mahindra Scorpio closing in at 15,576 units. The gap between the two stood at just 712 units. Maruti Suzuki’s recently launched Victoris finished in third position with 12,978 units ahead of the Kia Seltos at 11,716 units.
The Creta’s 2 per cent YoY increase was relatively modest – rising from 15,924 units last year. The Scorpio, on the other hand, recorded a much larger 58 per cent gain from 9,840 units which brought it much closer to the Hyundai. The arrival of Victoris also changed the upper half of the ranking in recent months as its tally of 12,978 units placed it ahead of several established midsize SUVs.
The Seltos recorded the highest YoY increase among the returning models in the top half. Its sales grew 150 per cent from 4,687 units to 11,716 units as it secured fourth place with ease. The Mahindra XUV 7XO, replacement to the XUV 700, ranked fifth with 8,541 units after a 72 per cent increase from 4,956 units.

The next two positions went to Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The Hyryder’s sales fell 10 per cent from 9,100 units to 8,234 units but it still held sixth place. The Grand Vitara moved up 36 per cent from 5,743 units to 7,808 units as only 426 units separated the two related SUVs during the month.
The Tata Sierra recorded a domestic tally of 5,622 units to take eighth place and Mahindra XEV 9S posted 4,508 units in ninth as it finished as one of the best-selling passenger electric vehicles in the country. The MG Windsor EV completed the ranking with 3,705 units. Its sales fell 18 per cent from 4,511 units in August 2025.

The top 10 midsize SUVs recorded 94,976 units last month. The Creta, Scorpio, Victoris and Seltos alone accounted for 56,558 units – nearly 60 per cent of that total. Mahindra placed three models in the list, Maruti Suzuki had two and the arrival of new models like Victoris, Sierra and XEV 9S gave the August chart a noticeably different shape from a year earlier.
