The table of top 10 cars in H1 FY27 saw a surge of 27.13% as Maruti Suzuki placed six models in the ranking and Tata Punch recorded the highest YoY gain

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire led the car sales charts in the opening half of this FY at 1,25,988 units – narrowly ahead of the Tata Punch which garnered 1,23,287 units. The difference between the first two stood at only 2,701 units. Meanwhile, the overall sales across the 10 models reached 11,01,031 units against 8,66,070 units in H1 FY26 with an increase of 2,34,961 units or 27.13 per cent.

Maruti Suzuki dominated the ranking numerically as six of its models occupied positions inside the top eight. The WagonR ranked third at 1,16,029 units while the Ertiga took fourth at 1,12,557 units. The Dzire, WagonR and Ertiga alone accounted for 3,54,574 units during the January to June period as the Indo-Japanese manufacturer really made its presence felt.

The Tata Punch delivered the standout annual gain as its figures rose by 49,832 units from 73,455 units in H1 FY26 to 1,23,287 units this time – corresponding to 67.84 per cent on a YoY basis. The Punch finished barely behind the Dzire despite starting from a much lower volume last year courtesy of good reception for its ICE and electric portfolios.

The middle of the table was particularly tight as Fronx, Swift and Baleno finished within 1,566 units of one another. The Fronx compact SUV coupe recorded 1,10,135 units after a 43.40 per cent YoY rise while the Swift reached 1,09,332 units at 29.97 per cent higher and the Baleno posted 1,08,569 units after climbing 50.81 per cent.

The Baleno, in particular, registered the second highest percentage increase among the 10 cars. Tata secured another place near the front through the Nexon which ranked fifth at 1,11,919 units. The SUV was up 24.97 per cent from 89,557 units in H1 FY26 – a numerical rise of 22,362 units. Thus, the Punch and Nexon contributed 2,35,206 units between them putting both Tata nameplates firmly inside the top five.

The Scorpio and Scorpio N recorded a combined 93,488 units – up 10.46 per cent from 84,634 units a year earlier. The increase of 8,854 units was the smallest positive change among the nine models that finished ahead of their H1 FY26 numbers. Even so, the Scorpio pair stayed ahead of the Hyundai Creta and secured ninth position.

The Creta was the only model in the top 10 to record a YoY decline while still topping the midsize SUV table. Hyundai sold 89,727 units during H1 FY27 compared to 99,345 units a year earlier – down 9,618 units or 9.68 per cent.
