Tata Motors and Stellantis have signed a definitive agreement to develop vehicles in India for more than 50 global markets. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), the electric vehicle subsidiary of TMPV, is also part of the agreement announced today officially. The new vehicles will be manufactured at the companies’ existing joint venture facility in Ranjangaon, Pune.
The production facility belongs to Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors and Stellantis. The Ranjangaon plant currently manufactures the Tata Nexon, Altroz and Curvv alongside a host of Jeep models. The facility has an integrated vehicle and powertrain manufacturing setup that supports the operations of both automotive manufacturers.
The Jeep Compass and Meridian are manufactured at Ranjangaon, and the facility also handles Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly of the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. The factory manufactures engines, transmissions and traction motors through its powertrain operations. The joint venture consequently has existing production facilities for conventional combustion engines and electric drivetrain components.
Under the agreement, Tata Motors will provide access to its vehicle architectures and product technologies. Stellantis will undertake product development through its Indian engineering operations and adapt the vehicles for international markets. The work will account for differences in regulations, consumer needs and operating conditions across the intended destinations. The arrangement gives Stellantis access to Tata’s vehicle development capabilities for its future global products.
In addition, the Ranjangaon plant already exports vehicles to Japan and South Africa. The new agreement will extend its manufacturing operations to products developed on Tata Motors’ architectures for Stellantis’ international markets. The companies intend to draw on India’s existing automotive manufacturing infrastructure and domestic component supply network for the program.
The definitive agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026. The earlier document covered potential cooperation in manufacturing, engineering and supply chain operations across India and overseas markets. The latest agreement establishes a specific arrangement for product technology and vehicle architecture collaboration. Tata Motors and Stellantis have maintained an industrial partnership for over two decades.
Stellantis operates 14 automotive brands and among them Jeep, Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Opel, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. The group’s international operations extend across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The synergic agreement expands the scope of its Indian engineering operations from the existing manufacturing partnership to vehicle development for multiple international markets.
