The Tata Aeris has been launched in India today at a starting price of Rs. 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom) as the brand replaces the Tigor with a rebranded and facelifted sedan across Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished variants. The range stretches to Rs. 9.75 lakh for the Accomplished iCNG AMT top-end trim.
The Aeris sits on the X-ALFA architecture and gets petrol and CNG powertrains, manual and AMT transmissions and six exterior colours namely Dandeli Drizzle, Nitro Crimson, Pure Grey, Daytona Grey, Pristine White and Dune Glow. The revised exterior features sharper LED headlamps and DRLs, newly designed 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, connected LED tail lamps and a wider lower grille with C-shaped housing.
The Aeris also comes with new wheel-arch cladding, a dual-tone black roof, shark-fin antenna and chrome-line door handles. The lifted bonnet and squared stance give the sedan a noticeably different profile as the rear gets a sculpted boot section. However, the notchback silhouette remains.

The cabin gains a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, a 5-inch all-digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and iRA connectivity for more than 35 connected car functions. The Aeris also gets a dual smartphone deck incorporating wireless charging, AeroLux ventilated leatherette front seats, automatic climate control and rear AC vents.
Other highlights are a six-speaker audio system, 65W Type-C charging, PEPS, a cooled glovebox and a height-adjustable driver seat. The AMT versions get a rotary selector and paddle shifters. As the powertrain choices continue, the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine develops 86 PS at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 3,300 rpm. The CNG version makes 75.5 PS at 6,000 rpm and 96.5 Nm at 3,500 rpm.

The CNG AMT is offered from the Pure persona upwards as Tata provides automatic transmission availability across both fuel choices. The petrol Smart and Pure ride on 175/65 R14 tyres, as Pure+, Creative and Accomplished get 175/60 R15 tyres. The complete iCNG range runs on 175/65 R14 rubber.
The X-ALFA platform gives the Aeris 170 mm of ground clearance alongside a 22.4-degree approach angle, 31.7-degree departure angle and 21.4-degree ramp-over angle. The front suspension consists of an independent lower wishbone and McPherson strut setup incorporating coil springs. The rear gets a semi-independent closed-profile twist beam and Dual Path Strut.
The safety list includes six airbags as standard, ESP, ABS, EBD, CSC, hill-hold control, ISOFIX mounts, iTPMS, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a rear defogger. The Aeris also gets a DashCam Recorder, 360-degree SVS HD camera offering 3D and 2D views, Blind View Monitor and an HD reversing camera. The CNG versions get leak detection, thermal incident protection, rear crash protection, direct CNG start and a single advanced ECU system.
The combination of petrol and CNG manual or AMT choices helps Tata to a wide band of consumers and features such as ventilated seats, connected tail lamps, 360-degree camera, dashcam and the 10.25-inch touchscreen move the equipment ceiling considerably higher and more importantly, aid in competing firmly against Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
