Renault will launch the Duster Hybrid in India on October 17, 2026 as it will help consolidate the midsize SUV’s lineup with a strong hybrid powertrain and perhaps aid in improving its sales numbers. Unveiled earlier this year when the new-gen five-seater made its local debut, the hybrid variant will directly rival Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara as well as Toyota Hyryder.
The Duster Hybrid gets a 1,789 cc naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, a 49 hp traction motor and a 20 hp starter generator. A 1.4 kWh battery supplies the electric system and total output stands at 160 hp and 172 Nm. Renault claims the SUV can cover up to 80 per cent of city driving in electric mode under suitable conditions – reducing the amount of time the petrol engine needs to operate in traffic.
The system sends power to the front wheels through its multi-mode automatic transmission. It switches between electric propulsion, petrol engine drive and hybrid assistance according to vehicle speed, battery charge and accelerator input. It also differs from the e-CVT setup fitted to the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Maruti Suzuki Victoris strong hybrids – enabling the Duster its own transmission configuration within this segment.
The Renault Duster hybrid will join two existing turbo petrol engines. The existing 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit kicks out 100 hp maximum power and 160 Nm of peak torque, and comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.3-litre turbo mill makes 163 hp and 280 Nm, and is hooked with six-speed manual and six-speed wet-clutch DCT options.
It will be packed with features and technologies such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument display, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, six airbags, 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS on selected variants. The hybrid version is expected near the top of the range.
Pricing will be revealed on October 17. It must be noted that the existing Duster range starts at Rs. 10.49 lakh and reaches Rs. 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The hybrid also gives Renault a powertrain that the Duster has lacked since its return to India earlier this year. The turbo petrol versions cover the conventional petrol segment and the E-Tech derivative adds electric assistance for customers focused on lower fuel consumption in city traffic.
