The new 550 PS Range Rover Sport Electric gets 118.5 kWh battery pack, claimed WLTP range of 609 km and 800V electrical architecture

JLR has unveiled the Range Rover Sport Electric and opened bookings for the same in India. The first fully electric Range Rover Sport uses two electric motors, all-wheel drive and a 118.5 kWh battery pack. Its power output stands at 550 PS while the torque goes up to 850 Nm, and Range Rover quotes up to 609 km of claimed WLTP range. The Sport Electric joins the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid derivatives in the range.

The acceleration of the Range Rover Sport Electric from 0 to 100 kmph takes 4.5 seconds through Dynamic Launch. The 0 to 96 kmph run takes 4.3 seconds and Range Rover says 850 Nm is the highest torque output yet for a Range Rover Sport and torque builds 50 per cent faster than in the larger Range Rover Electric. The battery operates through an 800V electrical system and supports DC charging at up to 350 kW.

A 10 to 80 per cent charge takes around 22 minutes and a charging stop of 10 minutes can add up to 220 km of range. AC charging reaches 22 kW with a full charge taking around seven hours at that rate. Range Rover also quotes an estimated real-world range of up to 535 km. The electric version receives substantial chassis changes compared with the plug-in hybrid Sport.

For instance, body stiffness rises by 61 per cent and the centre of gravity sits 73 mm lower. Dynamic Air Suspension, Adaptive Dynamics, Twin Valve Dampers, electronic Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering are part of the features list. Meanwhile, the active roll system can apply up to 1,400 Nm across each axle. Range Rover has also retained its off-road hardware.

Wading depth reaches 900 mm and the SUV can tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees. Virtual all-wheel drive and Intelligent Traction Management control torque distribution between the front and rear axles. Development testing also included the Carrara marble quarries in Italy where the SUV was tested on steep climbs and low grip surfaces. In addition, ThermAssist manages battery and drivetrain temperatures and the battery uses liquid cooling with a software-controlled buffer.

Range Rover has tested the battery across temperatures from minus 40°C to 90°C. Battery warranty stands at eight years or 1,60,000 km and Digital Twin technology supports remote battery-health monitoring during ownership. The Range Rover Sport Electric will be offered in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition trims. Production will take place at Solihull in the UK on the same lines as the other Sport derivatives. The electric model also gets an aerodynamically revised grille, new alloy wheel designs and a dedicated sound signature.
