Nissan and Renault post higher sales numbers in August 2026, with both brands banking on new products

Nissan and Renault have reported their domestic wholesale numbers for August 2026, with both manufacturers showing signs of stronger momentum in the Indian market. Nissan recorded 3,426 units in domestic wholesales during the month, marking a massive 147% year-on-year increase.

Renault, meanwhile, reported domestic wholesales of 2,842 units in August, taking its cumulative January-August 2026 sales to 31,979 units, up over 47% compared with the same period last year. Nissan’s numbers look particularly interesting because exports continue to make up a substantial chunk of its overall wholesale volume.

The company exported 5,924 vehicles in August, taking its total wholesale figure to 9,350 units. On the domestic front, Nissan says demand for the Magnite and Gravite remained steady, while the all-new Tekton received a strong response and helped drive the sharp year-on-year growth.

The Tekton is also beginning its international journey. Nissan has dispatched the first batch of more than 1,300 Tekton SUVs to South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal. The company says these markets mark the first phase of its wider export strategy for the SUV, with more international markets expected to follow. It is part of Nissan’s “One Car. One World.” approach, with India playing an increasingly important role in manufacturing and exports.

Renault’s August tally is lower than Nissan’s domestic figure, but its year-to-date performance points towards a significant improvement over last year. The company has sold 31,979 units between January and August 2026, compared with 21,621 units during the corresponding period in 2025. That works out to growth of more than 47%, according to Renault India.

Renault is now preparing to build on this momentum with a broader product strategy. The company says its future-ready plan will expand its portfolio to seven models covering petrol, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrains. The next major addition will be the Triber Turbo, which is scheduled to arrive in the last week of September 2026 and will give Renault’s compact MPV another powertrain option.
