MG Hector Tomahawk Plug-In Hybrid comes with a 20.5 kWh battery enabling more than 115 km of electric-only range and over 1,100 km total range

JSW MG Motor India has introduced the Hector Tomahawk Plug-In Hybrid in India at an introductory BaaS price of Rs. 21.79 lakh – addition to a battery rental of Rs. 3.2 per km. The seven-seat SUV gets a 20.5 kWh battery and a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. MG claims more than 115 km of electric range and over 1,100 km of combined range on a full charge and full tank.

The regular ex-showroom price starts at Rs. 25.70 lakh for the Exclusive variant while the Essence costs Rs. 27.80 lakh. The powertrain utilises a 101 hp petrol engine kicking out 125 Nm with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor rated at 198 hp and 237 Nm. The electric drive system incorporates a 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit while a dedicated hybrid transmission claims 98.8 per cent transmission efficiency.

The Atkinson cycle engine also achieves a claimed 43.2 per cent thermal efficiency. MG quotes a zero to 100 kmph time of just 9 seconds while the 52-litre fuel tank works alongside the battery to deliver the claimed 1,100+ km overall range. Six drive modes give the Tomahawk PHEV different powertrain operating strategies. Pure EV Mode relies on battery power for electric driving while Series Hybrid Mode has the petrol engine generate electricity for the motor.

V2H, V2L and V2V functionality also part of the package but V2H requires a separately sold compatible unit and V2L/V2V output is limited to 3 kVA under the specified conditions. As for safety, six airbags are standard across both variants along with ESP, traction control, hill-hold control, ABS with EBD, four-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, direct TPMS, front and rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.

The high-spec Essence gets the Autonomous Level 2 ADAS package which includes adaptive cruise control, bend cruise assistance, traffic-jam assist, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, lane-departure prevention, front-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian emergency braking, intelligent hydraulic braking assistance and intelligent headlamp control.
