Mercedes-Maybach S 580e arrives in India as the first electrified Maybach and gets 585 hp with 98 km EV-only driving range

The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e has launched in India at Rs. 3.35 crore (ex-showroom) as the first plug-in hybrid Maybach sold in the country. The initial allocation is limited to 30 units, and the flagship limousine gets a 3.0L six-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The combined output stands at 585 hp and 750 Nm.

The petrol engine develops 443 hp and 560 Nm, and the electric motor produces 160 hp and 480 Nm. The powertrain works through a nine-speed automatic gearbox and takes the S 580e from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph, and pure electric driving is possible at up to 140 kmph.

The 22 kWh usable battery delivers up to 98 km of WLTP-certified electric range. The charging hardware supports up to 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC, and Mercedes-Benz supplies a home charging solution for each car. The drive mode menu gets Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold settings, and adjustable recuperation also supports one-pedal driving. The weighted combined WLTP fuel efficiency stands at 34.48 kmpl.

The India-spec S 580e comes exclusively in a four-seat First-Class rear configuration. The rear compartment gets individual Executive seats, a full-length business console, folding tables, wireless charging and temperature-controlled cup holders. The Rear Comfort Package Plus adds climatised seats, adaptive ambient lighting and rear MBUX controls, and the Energizing package adds calf massage.

The cabin gets a Burmester 4D surround sound system rated at 1,610 watts through 31 speakers and eight exciters. The digital package gets MB.OS, MBUX Superscreen, a front-passenger display with privacy function, a 3D driver display, augmented-reality navigation and a head-up display. The Manufaktur specification adds Exclusive Nappa leather, piano lacquer trim and a Nappa leather roof liner.

The chassis gets cloud-based Airmatic air suspension that can access navigation data and adjust damping for changing road conditions. The rear-axle steering can turn up to 10 degrees to reduce the turning circle at low speeds and improve stability at higher speeds. The safety package gets MB.Drive Assist Level 2, pre-safe systems, Digital Light and 15 airbags. The exterior and cabin also get an illuminated Maybach grille, logo projection, illuminated door sills and exclusive two-tone Manufaktur finishes.
