Mercedes-Benz India has secured more than 650 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the new Electric GLC within 36 hours of opening registrations on October 5, 2026. The response comes nearly a month ahead of the electric SUV’s official Indian debut on November 4. The company has confirmed local production of the GLC 400 4MATIC at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-November. Registrations are still open for subsequent batches of the SUV.
The Electric GLC will become the first Mercedes-Benz SUV manufactured in India on the company’s next-generation electric vehicle architecture. The Chakan facility will accommodate production of the new model, which introduces a dedicated electric platform to the manufacturer’s locally assembled SUV portfolio. The GLC 400 4Matic will also expand the company’s range of battery-electric luxury vehicles in India, with the new architecture developed specifically for electric propulsion and associated vehicle technologies.
The manufacturer has yet to announce the Indian pricing and complete technical specifications of the Electric GLC. Details regarding its battery capacity, electric motor output, charging capabilities and certified driving range have not been disclosed in the latest announcement. The GLC 400 4MATIC will be the first confirmed version for domestic production, with further information about its equipment and available configurations expected during the November 4 presentation.
Brendon Sissing, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz India, said “650+ bookings in just 36 hours of opening of EOI, even before market launch, paves the way for Electric GLC becoming one of the most successful Mercedes-Benz in India at launch. This exceptional customer response underscores the strength of our brand, unmatched desirability of our products, and Mercedes-Benz’s pivotal role in shaping the future of luxury electric mobility in the country.”
The Electric GLC has already received the German Premium Car of the Year 2026 award ahead of its Indian introduction. The new SUV joins Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle family as the manufacturer introduces its latest-generation battery-electric technology to the country. The model also carries the GLC nameplate into a dedicated electric SUV architecture, separate from the existing conventionally powered GLC sold in India.
The initial registration programme also includes communication arrangements for prospective customers. Mercedes-Benz will provide periodic updates regarding EOI status and indicative vehicle delivery schedules to those who have registered. The process operates through authorised Mercedes-Benz dealerships and the manufacturer’s official Indian website. The company will accept additional registrations for future vehicle allocations, but it has not disclosed the number of units assigned to each batch.
The Electric GLC’s arrival coincides with Mercedes-Benz’s 140th anniversary celebrations, which commemorate Carl Benz’s automobile patent from 1886. The manufacturer has organised a global programme featuring three S-Class saloons travelling to 140 locations across six continents. In India, the upcoming GLC 400 4Matic will add another locally manufactured electric model to the company’s passenger vehicle portfolio. The November debut will establish its official pricing and India-specific equipment details ahead of the first scheduled customer deliveries.
