Gujarat and Manesar facilities now account for 70 per cent of Maruti Suzuki’s rail-based vehicle dispatches in FY 2026-27

Maruti Suzuki has crossed 10 lakh cumulative vehicle dispatches through its in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana. Around 7.9 lakh vehicles were dispatched from the Gujarat facility with the Manesar siding contributing about 2.1 lakh units. The combined figure was achieved three years and five months after the Hansalpur siding opened in March 2023 and the Manesar facility started operations in June 2025.

Rail now accounts for a far larger share of Maruti Suzuki’s vehicle movement than it did a decade ago. Its contribution stood at 5 per cent in FY 2014-15 and increased to 26.5 per cent in FY 2025-26. The company has set a target of 35 per cent by FY 2030-31 supported by further investment in dedicated railway infrastructure including a new in-plant siding planned for the Kharkhoda facility.

The Gujarat and Manesar sidings already handle 70 per cent of Maruti Suzuki’s rail-based dispatches in the current fiscal year. Rail movement crossed 3 lakh vehicles between the start of FY 2026-27 and August 31 showing how quickly the two dedicated terminals have become central to the company’s logistics network.

Maruti Suzuki has dispatched more than 33 lakh vehicles by rail since FY 2014-15. Of that total, 10 lakh units have moved directly from the Hansalpur and Manesar plants through their in-plant sidings. More than 23 lakh vehicles were dispatched through railway loading terminals outside the manufacturing facilities.

An in-plant railway siding lets finished vehicles move straight from the factory onto trains without first travelling by truck to an external terminal. Maruti Suzuki said the setup helps cut fuel consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions and also reduces truck movement on public roads. Both facilities were developed under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.

Maruti Suzuki is the only passenger vehicle manufacturer in India with dedicated in-plant railway sidings at both Hansalpur and Manesar. The Gujarat facility accounts for close to four-fifths of the 10 lakh cumulative dispatches through the two plants with Manesar contributing the rest despite becoming operational more recently. The next expansion will come from Kharkhoda where another dedicated siding is planned.
