Mahindra has launched the Thar OG in India at an introductory starting price of Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The new three-door SUV succeeds the Thar introduced in 2020 and will reach customers from October 11, 2026. Introductory prices apply to vehicles delivered until November 30. The range now consists of AXT, LXT and ZXT variants with petrol and diesel engines, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations.
A substantial change sits beneath the bodywork. The Thar OG moves to Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform with increased stiffness and a rear Pentalink suspension incorporating a Watts Link. Also, Frequency Dependent Damping system debuts on the new model and Mahindra has also switched to electric power steering. Additional NVH insulation targets lower noise and vibration inside the cabin.
Three engines are available. The 2.0-litre G20 TGDi mStallion petrol produces around 160 hp and 330 Nm. The 2.2-litre D22 mHawk diesel develops about 150 hp with 330 Nm. The 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel retains its power output of 117 hp and 300 Nm. Four-wheel-drive versions also get an Electronic Locking Differential and Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes.

Exterior revisions include a new grille, circular LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, redesigned front and rear bumpers and new 19-inch alloy wheels on the ZXT. LED ice-cube fog lamps gain a cornering function and the rear gets revised LED tail lamps. Two new colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, join six existing shades. Inside, the ZXT features Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and the second row gets a soft armrest with cupholders.

Safety equipment has also expanded substantially on the top-spec version. The ZXT gets six airbags including four HPTS airbags intended to protect the head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder areas of front and rear occupants. All four wheels get disc brakes which are supported by the ESP 9.3 suite. Front parking sensors, a rear-view camera and tyre-pressure monitoring also feature on the ZXT.

Equipment varies considerably across the three trims. AXT starts with electric power steering, push-button start, dual airbags, ESP, a roll cage, rear AC vents and 18-inch steel wheels. LXT adds an Electronic Locking Differential on 4WD versions, an HD 10.25-inch touchscreen, colour MID, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 18-inch alloys. ZXT adds the LED lighting package, 19-inch alloys, wireless charging, FDD, six airbags and leatherette seats.
Mahindra says more than four lakh customers have joined the Thar community since the nameplate’s earlier generations arrived. The Thar OG retains the familiar three-door layout but changes much of the mechanical bits beneath it with the new platform, revised suspension, stronger petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, additional off-road electronics and a larger safety package separating it from the outgoing model.
