Mahindra will launch the Thar facelift in India today with the three-door SUV set for its biggest update since the current generation arrived. The revisions primarily target new styling and cabin updates with the existing engine line-up expected to carry over. Several test vehicles and teasers have revealed glimpses of the exterior and interior ahead of the official announcement.
The cabin receives the biggest set of changes. Test vehicles have revealed a familiar 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system which was part of a mild update late last year along with minor changes to the dashboard and centre console. A new steering wheel, A-pillar grab handles and relocated power-window switches have also been spotted. The revised centre section could house a wireless charging pad on selected variants.
Mahindra could also introduce more equipment inspired by the five-door Thar Roxx. A 10.25-inch digital instrument display, automatic climate control and electric power steering have been reported for the facelift. Ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera system are likely too. Exterior changes give the three-door Thar a closer visual connection with the Roxx.

Spy vehicles point to a revised grille, circular LED headlamps with a new internal lighting signature and a redesigned front bumper. New alloy wheels are expected as part of the update. Changes at the rear may include revised tail lamps and bumper while the familiar tailgate-mounted spare wheel will be retained.
The existing powertrain range is expected to carry over without substantial mechanical changes. The 1.5-litre diesel develops around 117 hp and 300 Nm and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox in rear-wheel-drive specification. The 2.2-litre diesel produces around 132 hp and the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol makes around 152 hp.

Both larger engines are available with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. Four-wheel drive may stay available with the larger petrol and diesel engines, and rear-wheel-drive derivatives should retain their place in the lineup. No major alteration to the ladder-frame chassis or off-road elements is expected. Reports have also mentioned the possible return of a soft-top version.
The outgoing Thar sits in Rs. 10.32 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket. A small increase is possible for the facelift particularly on top-spec variants equipped with new features and technologies.
