Hyundai has officially confirmed the Bayon name for its upcoming SUV in India and more details are due shortly. The India-spec model has appeared in several test sightings under the Bc4i codename with reports pointing to a vehicle positioned between the Venue and Creta. Here are the 10 main things known so far.
Hyundai Motor India has confirmed that its upcoming SUV will carry the Bayon name. The company describes it as an “intelligent SUV” and has introduced the “Intelligence ON” theme as part of its initial campaign. Detailed specifications, variants and prices have not been announced yet but it will be packed with technologies.
The model tested in India does not look like a direct copy of the international Bayon. Spy images point to a taller and more upright SUV body with proportions tailored for the Indian market. Hyundai appears to have given the vehicle a more conventional SUV stance compared with the crossover-like global Bayon.
Reports indicate that the India-spec Bayon could measure approximately 4.18 metres in length. That would place it outside the sub-4m category and give Hyundai room to position it between the Venue and Creta.
Current reports point to the Bayon sitting above the Venue but below the Creta. Such positioning would give Hyundai another offering in one of India’s busiest SUV price bands without directly replacing either existing model.
Test prototypes show a high bonnet, upright profile, prominent body cladding and a relatively flat roofline. The front is expected to feature slim LED DRLs with separate headlamp units below along with a large grille. Roof rails and chunky wheel arches add to its SUV appeal.
Interior spy images suggest a substantially revised dashboard layout. Reports point to a wide dual-screen arrangement for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. A 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging and ventilated front seats are also among the features expected on top-end variants.
Several powertrain combinations have surfaced in reports. One possibility is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine – potentially related to the unit offered with the Creta. Other reports point to a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and the familiar 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor producing around 120 hp and 170 Nm.
A factory-fitted CNG derivative has also been reported for the India-spec Bayon. The model could use an underbody-mounted CNG tank arrangement to preserve luggage capacity in a similar fashion to latest Hyundai cars.
The reported new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine is understood to support electrification which opens the possibility of a hybrid Bayon later. Reports have also mentioned an e-CVT type transmission for an electrified derivative. A hybrid version, however, has not been confirmed.
Hyundai says more Bayon information will arrive in the coming weeks and reports point to a festive season introduction. Late October 2026 has emerged as the likely launch window. Expected pricing currently sits at roughly Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
