JSW Motors is expected to name its first independently branded passenger vehicle ‘Combat’ as it prepares to enter India’s car market during the festive season. The five-seat SUV will be based on the Chery-owned Jetour T2 and feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. JSW plans local assembly at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra as well.
The Combat will also establish JSW Motors as a separate passenger vehicle business from JSW MG Motor India. JSW already operates in the automotive sector through its joint venture with SAIC Motor but the new SUV will carry JSW’s own branding. Combat is among several names trademarked by the company alongside Adventura, Cadet, Urbanique, Dominor, Sereno and Eleve.
Its Jetour T2 origins give the upcoming SUV a distinctly rugged profile. The global T2 i-DM measures 4,785 mm in length with its spare-wheel cover, 2,006 mm in width and 1,875 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at 205 mm. The boxy body features an upright nose, squared wheel arches, short overhangs and a rear-mounted spare wheel with approach and departure angles of 28 degrees and 30 degrees.

The global T2 i-DM combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor system and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Its 26.7 kWh LFP battery supports a claimed electric-only range of 139 km under the NEDC cycle. Jetour quotes 0.8 litres per 100 km for combined NEDC fuel consumption and 5.4 litres per 100 km with a depleted battery. JSW has not confirmed whether these figures will carry over unchanged to the India-spec Combat.
Underneath, the international T2 i-DM has a monocoque construction with MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link rear setup. The listed global specification rides on 255/55 R20 tyres and has ventilated front discs, rear disc brakes and an electronic parking brake. Safety equipment includes front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX mounts.
JSW intends to assemble the Combat locally with initial component supplies expected from China before localisation increases. Earlier reports have pointed to local production of items including the battery pack, body steel, electric motor, seats, glass and tyres with battery cells among the components expected to come from overseas initially. The company has also been linked with future products based on Chery iCar and Jaecoo J5 architectures.
