Maruti Dzire CNG
CNG cars had a very strong August 2026. According to the sales report, manufacturers dispatched 1,05,249 CNG cars during the month, compared with 72,062 units in August last year. That works out to a sizable 46.1% year-on-year growth.
Maruti Suzuki continues to be the name that dominates the CNG space, but there are some interesting changes lower down the table. Tata Motors posted the highest growth among the four manufacturers, while the Punch recorded a particularly sharp jump in demand.
Maruti Suzuki dispatched 73,621 CNG cars in August 2026. A year ago, the number stood at 52,214 units. Despite the 41% growth, the bigger takeaway is the company’s 69.9% market share. The Ertiga remained Maruti’s best-selling CNG model with 13,352 units, although its sales were almost flat compared to August 2025.

The Dzire, meanwhile, posted 12,963 units, up 26%. The Wagon R also had a good month with 9,405 units, while the Brezza recorded 7,608 units. The Victorsis, which did not have comparable CNG sales last year, registered 6,833 units in August.
Tata Motors is where the numbers get particularly interesting. Its CNG volumes climbed from 10,805 units in August 2025 to 18,438 units this August, resulting in 70.6% growth. The Punch was the biggest contributor. Tata dispatched 7,767 Punch CNGs, more than twice the 3,838 units recorded last year. The Nexon also had a strong month with 6,178 units, up 40% year-on-year.

Hyundai dispatched 10,622 CNG cars in August, up from 7,201 units a year earlier. Its 47.5% growth puts it ahead of Toyota but still well behind Maruti and Tata in terms of overall volume. The Aura accounted for 6,485 units, making it Hyundai’s only model in the top 10 CNG sales chart.

Toyota sold 2,568 CNG cars, up 39.4% from 1,842 units last year. Its overall share stood at 2.4%. The August numbers also show how quickly CNG is spreading beyond the traditional hatchback and MPV categories. SUVs such as the Punch, Brezza, Nexon, Victorsis and Fronx now feature prominently in the sales chart, giving buyers more CNG options without having to stick to conventional body styles.
