The all-new dual-sport motorcycle from Bajaj has appeared in spy images again revealing several details that were not visible previously. The motorcycle is expected to become one of the five new products Bajaj plans to introduce before the end of this year with its launch potentially falling around the festive season.
A TFT instrument cluster takes centre stage in the latest images and appears closely related to the unit introduced on the Pulsar N160 SS with Bluetooth connectivity, WiFi and Google Maps mirroring. The switch cube also gets many controls as it indicates that the rider will have access to more functions while multiple ride modes and switchable rear ABS cannot be ruled out.
Bajaj has recently expanded its electronic package on the Pulsar range and some of those technologies could eventually reach this motorcycle as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control and crawl function will be the possible additions. It is also expected to receive adjustable clutch and brake levers while hazard lamp function will also be available.
The test prototype gets long travel suspension at both ends and it wears Pirelli MT 60 tyres as Bajaj could introduce the dual-sport offering in India as well as abroad. Upon arrival in India, it could get different tyres wrapping up the wire-spoked wheels. A 250cc engine is one big possibility and if Bajaj decides to position it aggressively, it could be derived from the Pulsar N250.
However, Bajaj has multiple options including the quarter litre motor found in KTM’s 250 cc range. The new Bajaj motorcycle will enter a segment that has gained several options in recent years. The Hero Xpulse 210 and Kawasaki KLX230 will be the key rivals while the forthcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 could also become a competitor.
The spy shots also confirm details we already know so far such as a flattish seat, high seat height, upright handlebar, sharp body panels, a front beak, telescopic front forks and a high-mounted exhaust system. Judging by the brand’s patent filings, it could go by the name Trekker.
