Bookings for the Aprilia SXR GT 175 and SXR GT 125 are open in India; the range gets 125 cc and 175 cc engine choices, revised bodywork, LED lighting and six colour options

Aprilia has revealed the new SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175 in India ahead of their market introduction in October. The two scooters revive the SXR name after the earlier SXR 125 and SXR 160 exited the market just a while ago. Aprilia has repositioned the range around a GT scooter concept which targets daily travel as well as longer rides with revised bodywork, a new footboard and separate colour palettes for both versions.

The larger SXR GT 175 gets a 175 cc engine and sits at the top of the new range. The powertrain is heavily linked with the 174.7 cc single-cylinder unit from the SR 175. In the SR, it kicks out 13.26 hp at 7,200 rpm and 14.14 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The Italian brand has not published the final India-spec output figures for the SXR GT 175 yet. Reservations for both models have opened across the country.

The SXR GT 125 takes the smaller engine option. Its predecessor used a 124.45 cc single-cylinder engine with output of about 9.6 PS but the tune for the new GT version could be different as we expect higher output.

The overall design changes distinguish the GT range from the earlier SXR models. The new scooters feature a large front fairing, Aprilia LED lighting, a broad seat, revised graphics and a redesigned footboard with a more open layout. The riding position has also been configured for city travel and longer distance trips according to the brand. Aprilia has kept the maxi scooter proportions that defined the previous SXR family as well.

Colour choices differ between the two versions. The SXR GT 125 will be sold in Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro and Glossy White. Meanwhile, the Aprilia SXR GT 175 gets Metallic Blue, Matte Black and Matte Green. The palette gives the new lineup six listed colour choices across the two engine options with Matte Black common to both.

The earlier SXR 125 and SXR 160 featured 12-inch wheels, a 220 mm front disc, telescopic front suspension, a single rear shock, digital instrumentation, LED lighting, USB charging and a 7-litre fuel tank. It looks like several of those elements will be carried over to the SXR GT 175. The launch of the duo will put the SXR name back into Aprilia’s local scooter portfolio with two engine choices instead of the previous 125 cc and 160 cc mills. The more premium model will take on Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Zoom 160 and the recently launched Honda Adv 160.
