German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz revealed the all-new E-Class Cabriolet at the Geneva Motor Show . The drop-top model is longer and wider compared to its predecessor and it incorporates several exciting technologies as well. It slot in between the C-Class Cabriolet and S-Class Cabriolets.
The 2018 Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet comes thoroughly re-engineered and it shares very little with its predecessor, which had been in business for seven long years. The car comes sporting a new high-strength steel and cast aluminium body, providing rigidity like its E-Class Coupe sibling. This way, it comes as pretty lightweight also. It takes inspiration from the coupe, but the silhouette and basic design remains same.

Dimensionally, the new E-Class Cabriolet measures 4,826 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,428 mm in height. This means, it is 123 mm longer, 74 mm wider and 30 mm higher than its predecessor. Based on the MRA platform, the drop-top model appears with a wheelbase of 2,873 mm, which is 113 mm longer than the current model. However, the boot capacity is lower than the old model.
The automatically operated fabric roof is certainly one USP of the model. It can be opened and closed in just 20 seconds, while the car is running at a speed of 50 kmph. The entire operation can be completed with just one push of a button located at the centre console. The new E-Class Cabriolet is made available in the US in four-different colour options – Dark Blue, Black, Dark Brown and Red.

Inside the cabin, it looks identical to the latest E-Class Coupe. The dashboard, AC vents come redesigned compared to the current E-Class Cabriolet. More wooden trims have been used to enhance the premium-ness, while the leather seats and upholstery come in five different colour options. It gets an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in European market, which gets bigger for the Australian market-spec model.
The 2017 E-Class Cabriolet is manufactured at the brand’s Bremen factory in Germany alongside its Coupe sibling. On the powertrain front, it comes equipped with three petrol and one diesel engine options. Power output of these engines will be between 181 hp and 328 hp.
For the United States market, the E-Class Cabriolet is priced from $66,300 (Rs. 42.97 lakh). The base version is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine making 329 hp and 479 Nm of peak torque. It is linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission that helps accelerate from 0-96 kmph in just 5.5 seconds.
