Tata Motors officially revealed the H5X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company has confirmed that the production version of H5X will definitely come and it is expected to be launched in the first half of 2019. The H5X is powered by 2.0 L multijet diesel engine sourced from Fiat which is expected to produce 170 hp of power and over 300 Nm of torque.
Rajendra Petkar, CTO of Tata Motors confirmed that the company could offer hybrid powertrain option for H5X. The upcoming SUV will be a global model and the company want to meet international regulation also. The company want to meet Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFÉ) norms and it could be achieved with hybrid and electric vehicles.

The second phase of CAFÉ is going to be introduced in 2022 and it will require manufacturers to be 30 percent efficient which is why most of the carmakers are working on making their engines more efficient along with alternative fuels to contribute to it. The average economy is calculated on the basis of how much fuel used for 100 km.

Initially, the H5X will be diesel only then followed by petrol engine and hybrid models. The H5X will get the option of both manual and automatic transmission with four wheel drive system also. Tata Motors will pack H5X with lots of features. The company is also developing a 7 seater version of H5X which will be launched after the 5 seater model.
