Toyota Fortuner has long been the leader in full-size SUV segment and has Ford Endeavour as its closest rival. Observing the potential of this segment, Mahindra was mulling over an entry with a product that would become its flagship. The largest UV manufacturer in the country currently has the XUV500 as its halo SUV but things will change when the Rexton-based model graces the market.

With Mahindra releasing an updated XUV500 just a while ago, the rebadged Rexton is part of the upcoming launch timeline that comprises of TUV300 Plus and U321 MPV as the company targets more premium buyers with an expanded portfolio. Having made its domestic premiere at the 2018 Auto Expo in February, the new flagship could be christened as the XUV700.

The India-spec model comprises of exterior changes to bring a Mahindra vibe rather than SsangYong.

On the outside, the Mahindra XUV700 features chrome grille with six vertical slats but interestingly the spied prototype used the stock SsangYong grille assembly. Elsewhere, the front bumper has adorned chrome insets and the sharp projector headlamps have integrated LED Daytime Running Lights. The two-tone five-spoke alloy wheels, however, resemble that of the show car in Greater Noida.
