FCA plans to focus on mass market cars and expects to fetch around $8.3 billion by selling Maserati and Alfa Romeo

FCA is planning to sell the Maserati and Alfa Romeo car brands. The automobile group is aiming to fetch around $8.3 billion (Rs. 830 crore) by selling these two car brands. FCA is yet to finalise the decision, but speculation is pretty high considering the fact that he group plans to focus on the mass market products and streamline the operation.

The news surfaces just days after the Chinese automobile group Great Wall Motor Co. showed interest to purchase the iconic Jeep brand from FCA. Selling the Maserati and Alfa Romeo brands will give FCA a chance to focus more on the mass market cars from its subsidiary brands like Jeep, Dodge and Ram.

At present, FCA is tight lipped about the development, but it is considering all the available options. As the brand partners with Chinese automakers like GAC, and several automobile groups from the country have already shown interest to purchase car brands currently owned by FCA, selling the Maserati and Alfa Romeo to a Chinese company remains a viable option.

Meanwhile FCA is emphasising on the Jeep brand to increase its market share in India. It has recently launched the Jeep Compass in the domestic market that is the third product from the brand here. The Jeep Compass has been specially designed for the emerging markets like India and this SUV has already garnered more than 8,100 bookings in the country.

Apart from that, Jeep is also gearing up to launch a smaller SUV renegade in India that is expected to give the American SUV manufacturer chance to reach a broader customer base. Overall, FCA is betting big on the Jeep brand to stay afloat in the highly competitive Indian market. Other brands from the FCA group like Fiat and Maserati are also present in the country. But they couldn’t fetch a desired sales result for the automobile group.
