Nissan’s budget brand Datsun has just introduced an AMT transmission into its top-selling Redi-Go entry-level small car and its deliveries have begun officially from yesterday. Bookings had already commenced across all Nissan and Datsun dealerships in India at an initial amount of Rs. 10,000 right from January 10.
Underpinned by the CMF-A global architecture, the RediGo has the mechanical bits and platform shared with the SUV-esque Kwid. The Japanese manufacturer has long been expected to launch Automated Manual Transmission equipped variants ever since the much-talked-about Kwid 1.0L entered sales in November 2016.

It has a regular stick function with R N D controls and switching to M enables manual mode. Unlike the Kwid AMT, it gets a creep function called Rush Hour which is said to enhance the ease of driving. The top-of-the-range S variant and the T (O) are the only grades to feature an AMT-equipped 1.0L engine.

Presently, the tall-riding Redi-Go carries a price tag of Rs. 2.41 lakh for the base model and it goes all the up to Rs. 3.75 lakh for the range-topping Gold Limited Edition (ex-showroom prices, Delhi). The Redi-GO is currently offered in T(O) and S trims with the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine and the trims have been expanded to accommodate the AMT.
No cosmetic and interior modifications have been made to differentiate the AMT variants from the regular version. In terms of features, it comprises of an audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, hands-free calling and audio streaming.
