The huge buzz created in the domestic two-wheeler industry has settled down today as Aprilia launched the much-vaunted premium scooter in the market. Starting with an introductory price of Rs. 65,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the SR 150 heralds the famed Italian brand’s foray into Indian scooter space. Aprilia’s entry comes with a barrage of road racing success around the world in premier motorcycle racing classes.
The company, which started as a bicycle manufacturer in the ‘40s evolved into producing scooters and high-capacity motorcycles, is owned by Piaggio & Co. SpA. The first-ever premium scooter in an affordable price will stick by the brand’s sporty theme and the SR 150 will be sold through the Piaggio dealerships spread across the country.
It has a sporty exterior that can make it a crowd gatherer. The sharp-looking Aprilia SR 150 features turn indicators mounted on the handlebar, beak-styled front apron twin headlamp unit and instrument cluster with twin-pod analog system displaying speed, rpm and fuel indication. It will be sold in two colour options and some of the significant features offered are under seat capable storage, USB provision and two tone art leather seat.
It sits on 14-inch alloy wheels covered by 120/70 spec wheels. Up front, the SR 150 will have 220 mm discs and at the rear 140 mm drum unit for providing stopping power. Aprilia has big plans in the pipeline for India under the SR badge as a new product could be launched as soon as next year. The SR 150 will have its unique place in the booming scooter market considering the performance numbers and its aggressive appearance.
