Toyota is preparing to launch some exciting new cars in India and one of them could be the Rush compact SUV. We reported a few weeks ago that the Japanese automaker was working on a brand new model. The 2018 Toyota Rush’s exterior design language had been revealed already courtesy of a leaked brochure scan while a new set of images arose the anticipation even further ahead of launch in the last few days.
All pumped to enter the Indonesian market early next year, the Rush is a production version of the FT Concept and has a sturdy side profile, sporty crossover-ish silhouette along with the sleek front portion resonating aggression. The highly-promising SUV has officially made its global premiere today and it will spawn a Daihatsu badged cousin in the name of Terios.

The SUV comes drawing significant level of design inspiration from the Daihatsu FT concept unveiled at 2015 GIIAS and we are not disappointed judging by its overall design. Toyota is certainly moving towards making the whole styling cohesive with the existing large vehicles like the Fortuner we already have in India with increased premium features.

The side profile seems to have longer glass house and the roofline doesn’t slant too much when meeting the rear. Overall the sides feature a muscular tone and we can see that there are large sporty alloy wheels, sleek character lines, turn indicator integrated on the wide ORVMs and blackened glass area.
It comprises of good amount of ground clearance as the outgoing model. The new-gen Rush will cost above IDR 300 million (Rs. 14.46 lakh) for the TRD Sportivo variant and the top-of-the-line variants get six airbags. Compared to the outgoing model, it will only ask for a little premium of around IDR 3 million (Rs. 14,000) but official prices will only be revealed in January ahead of the market entry in Indonesia.
The seven-seater SUV measures 4,435 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,705 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,685 mm. Although Toyota is considering smaller vehicles for India via Suzuki’s alliance apart from planned EVs by 2020, it might take the risk of developing a diesel mill for the Rush and introduce it in our market as the potential for SUVs in different price brackets is always huge.
Also visible are the seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three cup holders, Miracast & Weblink connectivity, three adjustable headrests in the middle row, black seat upholstery, six-airbags in top-end variants, reverse parking camera and automatic climate control in TRD Sportivo version.
As for the TRD Sportivo version, the Rush features TRD badged scuff plates, red highlights, TRD Sportivo lettering on the rear door, 17-inch machined alloy wheels, unique soft-touch dashboard with dual-tone aesthetic, refreshed front and rear bumper, LED headlamps, start/stop engine button, rear parking camera, dual VVT-i engine, sporty combination meter, exclusive TRD underguard, rugged rear TRD underguard, etc.
