There is a fair chance that Yamaha could introduce this powerful and feature-packed 155cc scooter in India considering the popularity of premium scooters

Yamaha showcased the Aerox 155cc scooter at the 2019 Bangkok International motor show. The Aerox automatic scooter was first unveiled in Malaysia in October 2016 and is currently sold in the NVX155 nameplate there. Besides Malaysia, this particular scooter is also sold in the market of Indonesia, Vietnam as well as the Philippines.

Surprisingly, the Aerox was also spotted at a Yamaha dealership in India as well last year which sparked the rumours of its launch. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Talking about the scooter, in particular, the Aerox is a premium scooter offering from Yamaha and it gets plenty of features to prove that point.

The Aerox features a 5.8-inch digital instrument display, twin LED headlamps, mobile charger, a smart key system (a single key for accessing the under seat storage and also the fuel tank lid). The scooter has been fitted with 14-inch wheels on both ends and uses a disc brake towards the front and a drum brake at the rear for stopping.

It also gets a single channel ABS for the safety of the rider. The Aerox also has a ground clearance of 142mm and a seat height of 790 mm. Coming to its powertrain, the Yamaha Aerox 155 is powered by a 155cc, single cylinder, water cooled, SOHC Blue Core engine. This unit produces about 14.8 bhp of peak power at 8,000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm.

Just like the YZF-R15 V3, the scooter also features Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) to make sure that there is balanced power delivery at low, mid as well as high engine rev. This scooter is definitely way more powerful than some of the 150 motorcycles available in India at this moment.

The Japanese two-wheeler maker hasn’t revealed whether they have any plans of launching any scooter in India or not this year. However, keeping the growth o0f automatic scooters in mind, there is definitely a market for premium scooters like Aerox in the country. Currently, the Vespa SR 150 and the Aprilia SR150 are the only two options available in the 150 scooter segment in India.
