Mahindra XUV400 Formula Edition gains a special livery to celebrate Mahindra Racing’s Formula E home race in Hyderabad

Mahindra & Mahindra has revealed a statement regarding a special edition of the recently launched XUV400. The electric SUV has gained a new livery celebrating its participation at the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which will be held in India for the first time. It pays homage to Mahindra Racing’s first-ever home race in India.

Mahindra Racing has been at the forefront of Formula E ever since the electric single-seater racing series came into existence. The brand has secured multiple podiums in the premier racing class and it brings home its Gen3 Formula E race car, M9Electro, at the ongoing ninth season of the championship. The Mahindra XUV400 Formula Edition is said to be inspired by its ‘racing spirit’.

The Mahindra Formula E and the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E.) teams partnered on the design of the livery of the Gen3 car to ‘bring alive the thrill of this exciting sport’. The Mahindra XUV400 Formula Edition sports dual-tone black and copper livery. The brown finish can be seen on the bonnet, roof, and across the sides while the alloy wheels are also done up in black and brown colours.

Red finish can also be noted on the rear fenders. Back to Formula E, the Gen3 cars are the most powerful and fastest yet (100 kW more powerful producing 476 hp) and have a top speed of 320 kmph. All teams have the common carbon fibre chassis and battery to reduce cost but they can design their own powertrain and associated components including the electric motor, gearbox and rear suspension.

The Greenko Hyderabad E-Prix will be held on the Hyderabad Street Circuit, situated on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake. The highly reputed ABT CUPRA Formula E Team has also become the first customer team for Mahindra Racing this season by using the M9Electro. Mahindra Racing goes into the weekend sixth in the constructors’ championship after securing a podium in the opening race in Mexico.

The team comprises former Formula E champion, Lucas Di Grassi, the experienced Brit, Oliver Rowland, and the highly promising local talent Jehan Daruvala (reserve driver) who competes in Formula 2.
