Volvo’s Owner Geely Launches New Car Brand Called Lynk & Co

Lynk & Co 01 compact SUV will be based on the same modular platform as the upcoming XC40; will hit global markets by 2018

Volvo’s Chinese owner Geely has announced a new separate automotive brand called as Lynk & Co and its first product known as 01 compact SUV has been revealed as well. It will be locally produced in China for the home market but will be shipped elsewhere to United States and European countries targeting huge volume levels.

The Lynk & Co 01 compact SUV shares platform and underpinnings with the forthcoming Volvo XC40 luxury vehicle. All the designing and R&D works have been completed in Volvo’s home of Sweden as well. It is claimed to be a technologically advanced machine because it is always connected to the internet and cloud based systems when it hits showrooms.

It boasts an open application interface enabling system developers to incorporate their own ideas into the compact SUV. The customers can monitor their car through smartphone in addition and share information with others. Lynk & Co has confirmed that the 01 will be built on the same modular architecture as the oncoming XC40 but the mechanical details have been under wraps.

Since it is based on the new XC40, we can expect the 01 to feature 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 1.5-litre three-cylinder engines in different configurations. As Volvo is keen on plug-in hybrid variants of its existing models, the 01 could get such drivetrains. The transmission options are likely to be six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic while the drive will be sent to either front wheels or all four wheels.

The Lynk & Co 01 compact SUV measures 4,530 mm in length, 1,654 mm in height, 1,855 mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. As for the exterior, the first-ever Lynk model comprises of an unique front fascia. It comes equipped with narrow grille, smaller headlamps, slightly forward slanting bonnet, roof-integrated spoiler, dual exhaust pipes, 7-shaped tail lamps, round foglamps, sporty bumpers, etc. It will enter global markets by 2018 before the brand introduces 02 and 03 models.
