Volvo XC90 R-Design, Facelifted V40 and V40 Cross Country will look to strengthen the product lineup of the Swedish automaker
While presenting the 1st ever Gaadiwaadi Luxury SUV of the Year award to Volvo XC90, we sat with the Managing Director of the company’s Indian arm, Tom Von Bonsdorff, for a chat. He revealed the slew of launches the Swedish brand will come up with through the year and it seems like they are sticking by the plan.
In March, the S60 Cross Country, which is essentially the S60 sedan with slight off-roading characteristics, was introduced into the market. The XC90 Excellence T8 Plug-in Hybrid became the first petrol-electric luxury SUV in India when it arrived less than a month ago. According to report from Autocar and going by our earlier reports, Volvo is going to have a busy end to the year.

As many as four launches have been planned which include the market entry of the flagship S90 sedan, R-Design variant of the XC90 alongside facelifted versions of the V40 hatchback and its Cross Country version. The launch date for the S90 sedan has been set at November 4th and it will be the first of the four to arrive.
Successor to the obsolete S80, it sits on a new modular SPA platform rivalling against the likes of Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It is embellished with the latest global design language with a sleeker profile and imposing silhouette. As in the XC90, it will get power from the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with a hybrid drivetrain likely to join the mix later.

At launch, the 2.0L D4 diesel motor will produce 190 hp before the more powerful twin-turbo D5 with 235 hp expected very soon. The XC90 R-Design is a sporty option for the Inscription which endured a price drop of up to Rs. 3 lakh recently. To emphasise its sportiness, the exterior changes about to be implemented are enlarged alloy wheels, twin exhaust system, revised bumpers, silver roof rails, etc.
No modifications mechanically are intended as the same 2.0L diesel will feature. Both the updated versions of V40 hatchback and the V40 Cross Country will have similar powertrain line-up but changes to the exterior like a sharper outlook, addition of now-mandatory Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs, restyled bodywork, etc are expected.
