Volvo XC90 R-Design Deliveries Silently Begin in India

Volvo XC90 R-Design Delivery in India

Volvo XC90 R-Design features visual enhancements to distinguish itself from the regular model; mechanical changes are likely implemented

Volvo seems to have silently commenced delivery of the R-Design equipped XC90 SUV as we can reveal. The luxury sport package aims at providing performance-based look and feel on the outside as well as inside the cabin. It enables the already plush appealing XC90 an even more distinctive and stronger road presence. In every angle, there are finer details that emphasise the dynamic presence of the R-Design over the standard model with tweaks to mechanical components to make the driving experience sportier.

On the outside, the subtle design enhancements give the XC90 a more purposeful presence on the go and also while standing in traffic in our opinion. The highly distinctive and now-signature Thor’s Hammer headlights with LED lighting technology allow for a unique front grille, sharper spoiler and bumpers, and 20-inch five-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels on the XC90 R-Design.

Inside the cabin, the XC90 R-Design enables a driver-focused interior made with premium materials. It features sculpted and contoured seats that are said to “support you through demanding twists and turns”.

The luxurious interior is further reinforced with R-Design textile mats, contrasting stitching in the seats, a steering wheel trimmed with perforated leather, a 12-inch driver display with four graphic modes and optional carbon fibre inlays. Steering wheel mounted gearshift paddles offer additional control as well.

2015-volvo-xc90-r-designMechanical modifications include quicker steering and a tuned R-Design sport chassis that is lower and firmer with adjusted anti-roll bars and stiffer springs resulting in a sporty driving experience without compromising ride comfort. Elsewhere, the XC90 R-Design is available with D5 Diesel, T6 Petrol and even T8 Twin Engine models.

But for India, we suspect it could be had with either a 2.0L diesel or a 2.0L petrol engine from the regular lineup with possibly no change in power and torque outputs. We revealed last year that Volvo is bringing R-Design to India alongside expressing their product launch timeline. We expect the prices of the vehicles in the portfolio to go significantly down as the first locally assembled product from Bengaluru will be entering showrooms during the course of this year.
